I 💚 birds. I saw this spectacled monarch (Symposiachrus trivirgatus) sitting on its nest in the rainforest the other day. ⠀ ⠀ #birds #birdsofinstagram⠀ ⠀

I 💚 wild flowers. I saw this purple fringe-lily (Thysanotus tuberosus) being pollinated by one of native stingless bees 🐝 I think a leaf cutter (megachile sp). Perhaps a bee nerd could help me with this id. ⠀ ⠀ I see these flowers at this time of year in the dry Sclerophyll forest at the top of Minyon Falls. ⠀ ⠀ #wildflowers #wildlilies #bees #bee #nativebees

I went to the Save our Koalas forum the other night. It is distressing to hear what is happening to these Aussie icons habitat. Not just their habitat but other animals too, 5 million animals are dying a year in Australia due to logging alone. ⠀ ⠀ The east coast of Australia is rated 11th worst in the whole world for deforestation (the only developed country in the world to be on this list).⠀ ⠀ There is only 9% of intact forest left in NSW.⠀ ⠀ Koala numbers in NSW are down to 20000. Only 100000, left in the whole world. Down from 10,000,000 from when white man arrived on these shores and hunted them almost to oblivion. Now deforestation is set to take the rest. ⠀ ⠀ In order to save koalas we have to protect the trees in which they live. By protecting their trees we also help save the planet from climate change. This should all be a no brainer. ⠀ ⠀ What can we do? ⠀ Change the legislation to conserve what’s left of our native forests.⠀ ⠀ Stop logging all remnant and high conservation value regrowth vegetation.⠀ ⠀ Ask the person you intend to vote for where they stand on koala habitat loss and what they intend to do about it.⠀ ⠀ Stop all clear felling! ⠀ ⠀ Force forestry to look for wildlife before they log on both private and public lands. ⠀ ⠀ Enforce real penalties for people organisations such as forestry who break the law.⠀ ⠀ 📷@naturensw⠀ ⠀ #koala #saveourkoala #conservation #stoplogging

I💚turtles. I saw this bunch of saw shelled turtles at Killen Falls yesterday. As soon as people started turning, they slipped one by one into the water. ⠀ ⠀ This is a popular swimming hole, there are also platypus in there too. I can’t help but wonder what the impact on wildlife and the health of the creek is from the hordes of people who visit Killen Falls every day. ⠀ ⠀ #turtles #humanimpact #killenfalls

I 💚 waterfalls. I went out early to Killen Falls, near Byron Bay, yesterday (before it got too busy). For a little while I was the only one there. ⠀ ⠀ I tried a ND filter for the first time (wasn’t actually a filter, just a gel I held over the lens). It’s always nice to get a nice blur on waterfall, to do that you need to slow down the shutter speed, but when you do that, you let too much light in and the photo is over exposed. I’m not sure exactly have it works, but the nd filter makes it darker, so you can get the blue, without the over exposure. ⠀ ⠀ #byronbay #waterfall #photography #killenfalls

I 💚 birds. I’ve lived in Brunswick Heads for 10 years. This is the first time I’ve seen bush stone curlews here. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ The bush stone-curlew (Burhinus grallarius) is a large (55–60 cm wingspan) ground-dwelling bird endemic to Australia.⠀ ⠀ This one has been hanging out at the Bruins Bowlo, there’s been another one hanging at the pub. I’m not sure of the gender of either bird, but they both seem a bit lonely, I wish they could meet up, but they are 2 kms apart. ⠀ ⠀ #birds #birdsofinstagram #rarebirds ⠀
