  1. We did the same ride, and were just reminiscing. Got a laugh from your comments. I remember listening to Bob Hawke speak to us. I was surprised how short he was. What a wonderful experience. Rain, wind, sun, and hills. Lunch stops just when I thought I couldn’t go any further. I am now nearly 70, and still love my riding, bushwalking, and the occasional paddle. Thankyou.

  2. I was the American bicycle mechanic on this ride. I repaired more than 100 bicycles every single day. I also assisted in conducting bicycle clinics in the evenings. It was amazing how tough the Aussies were compared to the complaining Americans. I remember laughing when they would say, “I read a National geographic that stated Australia is a hot flat dry country!” As luck would have it, it rained almost every single day. We went through the Blue and Snowy mountains, the highest mountains in Australia. While we were in the mountains, it was so cold we liked to have frozen to death at night. So much for National Geographics impression of Australia. I’d like to find any pictures taken during my repairing adventures, and the bicycle clinics I presented. I’m working on my memoirs.
